Ruth creates whimsical hand built figurative objects out of Stoneware. Her inspirations are generally drawn from the natural world around us - flowers, trees, the seaside, vintage fabrics, and antiques.
She delights in beachcombing for sand-washed items at low tide, and tries to incorporate the flotsam, such as driftwood, and rope into some of her work.
She is also passionate about rummaging through junk shops, and discovering old bric-a-brac objects to create various textures, and layering effects. Her favourite items are embroidered linen table mats, doilies, and wooden printing blocks.
To build up colour and depth to her pieces, she uses a variety of slips, stamps, and sprigs, that she makes herself.
Ruth sees her work as a three dimensional scrap book, that is constantly evolving.
